Newcastle University researchers Catherine Douglas and Peter Rowlinson have discovered that on farms where each cow was called by her name, the overall milk yield was higher than on farms where cattle were nameless faces (or udders).
They asked 516 British dairy farmers about their attitude to the behaviour and welfare of their cows and found that those who called cows by name said they had a 258-litre higher milk yield than those who did not.

In 1939, with the war with Germany imminent, three propaganda posters were designed by the Government in order to maintain morale and offer reassurance within the country. Each featured the crown of King George VI upon a bright background and had one of the following messages:
· Freedom is in Peril
· Your Courage, Your Cheerfulness, Your Resolution Will Bring Us Victory
· Keep Calm and Carry On
